On-line Resources for Women in the Voluntary Sector

Find out about what is happening in IT in the Greater Manchester Area, download training materials, fact sheets, access useful links to develop your IT skills in our Resources section.

Consultancy and On-site Training

WICOP can offer intensive, tailor made support to women's organisations and women in community groups. How this works depends very much on the needs of the organisation and their workers (voluntary or paid). We can undertake IT audits, advise on equipment, support the development of an IT Strategy, undertake training one-to-one or in small groups, and support the development of web sites etc.

We have consulted with organisations over a specific issue e.g. the purchase of equipment, involving one or two meetings, or worked intensively each week with one of two workers, on specific office applications.

1 Day IT Training Courses

WICOP recognises that women in voluntary groups are very busy and have very specific computer needs. Also we recognise that voluntary sector organisations do not have a lot of funding for training. So WICOP has devised accessibly priced monthly training events to address skills and packages which women in the voluntary sector have said they need.

Current Courses can be found on our Events Page.

Course from 1999/2000 have included, Basic PC Maintenance, Search Skills, Databases, MS Publisher.

Computer Drop-in

To address individual needs and those specific problems that need to be sorted out yesterday, WICOP runs 2 weekly drop-in sessions.

Tuesday 5pm-7pm
Friday 10am-12pm

You can come once for advice on a specific problem or to train more generally in areas such as office applications, PC Maintenance, Internet, Basic Web Design.

In order for us to be prepared for who is coming and what areas you'd like to cover, please ring either Nikki Dearn or Cath Dyson on 953 4049 to book a session.

Events

WICOP staff are happy to attend events which are around issues of voluntary sector support, women and/or Information Technology. We can do stalls, workshops, or presentations. Recent Events have included,

  • Stockport Black History Celebration Day on 27th October 2000
  • Women's Health MOT Day at Ancoats Clinic on 21st September 2000
  • MCIN's Social Inclusion Conference on 29th July 2000

If you are interested in WICOP attending an event run by your organisation please contact us.
